My Honoree & Daughter, Lindsey!

This will be my 3rd CCC (2006, 2007) and I can’t wait! For 2009, my goal is to field a team that collectively raises at least $20,000.00. With the help of a great team and with the support of the Colliers International's Links for Life Foundation, I think we can make it happen.

My inspiration for this ride and my prior two rides is twofold. First and foremost is my 9 year-old daughter, Lindsey. Lindsey was diagnosed with Systemic Onset Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of three. Much has happened since then but something that has not changed is our family’s support for this cause, which affects the lives of more than 250,000 children in the U.S. My wife, Kelley has Chaired the San Jose Arthritis Walk or been one its biggest supporters in every year of its 5-year history. She has participated in two Joints in Motion marathons, including the Disney World Marathon in January, 2009. Kelley was just selected to serve on the Juvenile Arthritis Alliance Leadership Group, which is a tremendous honor.

In addition to two previous CCC’s, I serve on the Board of Directors of the Northern California Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and on its Advocacy Committee. For four years, I have been a counselor at Camp Milagros, Northern California’s annual summer camp for children aged 9-14 who suffer from Arthritis and Arthritis-related diseases.

Lindsey suffered acutely from her Arthritis for more than two years. The pain was frequently so bad that she had practically no mobility whatsoever. She was on as many a six medications simultaneously, including Prednisone (Steroids) and injections of Metholtrexate and Enbrel. With the help of our fabulous doctors at Stanford (Dr. Peter Chira and others), Lindsey eventually had two years of remission that ended in January of 2008. Since then, Lindsey’s arthritis has been relatively mild, but she does experience occasional flares and has been on & off medication for the last year and a half.

We are absolutely convinced that Lindsey’s disease would be debilitating today if it were not for her doctors and for recent changes in treatment and care that has it roots in research funded by the Arthritis Foundation.

I said that my inspiration for doing the CCC again was twofold. The other reason? It is an absolute BLAST!
